Squirrels

Post by Smellysocks »

I finally went to check on my boat after leaving her winterized a couple of months ago. Shoveled the snow off and pulled the tarp.
Boat looked fine till I noticed halyards had been chewed by squirrels.
Not really a big deal as they were probably the original set and was probably going to replace them anyways.
Any suggestions on a good replacement?
I was thinking double braided polyester and not sure of size 5/16 or 3/8?
I have to go back and measure length and make a list of items to order.

I went with 5/16 Sta-set on my 26. Love it! All rope with a bowline to the shackle. I just bought it by the foot on sale and saved a lot of money.

Thanks for the links and rigging ideas.
Heading out to the boat soon to take measurements.
Do many of you run the lines back to the cockpit?
Seems like many boats I've been on have done this but the large hatch on the C22 makes this problematic.

My 26 has 3/8" halyard for the jib and 7/16" halyard for the main.
