It appears that the spreaders are pinned to a post that goes through the mast. Need to fab a new one and need the specs. Any suggestions on doing this without dropping the mast would be helpful. Thinking a tall ladder would not be stable after loosening the shrouds.

Just thinking here, but can you take a long ratchet strap, make a loop around the mast and use the jib halyard to raise it just under the spreader mount, hitch the halyard and ratchet from the toe rail?

My spreaders must have been broken or misplaced and the previous owner used metal conduit for replacements.

My spreaders are pinned on holders, they do not go through the mast, but I have a C-22, not sure on the 26.

The spreaders are much different on the 26 vs 22.On the 26, the for and aft shrouds attach to the spreader base. On the 22 those shrouds are directly attached to the mast.

If the spreader broke and the center shroud came loose, you might want to pull a cleated halyard off to that side and tie it off to something like a cleat or the toe rail anyway...I've used a tall ladder to retrieve a halyard tail once, and it was somewhat exciting...

EE, That would have been the the obvious solution, I instead created a makeshift spreader with a notched 2" X 4" and wedged it between the mast and the center shroud which restored the lost tension. Thinking I'll just pull the boat and use the mast crane to inspect and repair with the mast down.

Great solution. If you can't drop mast and need specs let me know, EE's mast is down and at the house.

Just to update, here's the offending part. Now where can I get one of these!!!!!

Took a pic of EE's spreader socket, looks like that single bolt is what holds both spreaders to the mast ?
