My wife and I were out sailing the other day, and we have clams cleats just aft of the winches for trimming the jib. Every time we had to trim the jib we had to be on the leeward side of the boat. I remember years ago when we had a Catalina 22 that we had cam cleats and you could trim the jib from the windward side .So what kind of cleats do all of you have for trimming the jib? I thank I am going to change from a clam cleat to a cam cleats like I have for ajusting the main sheet.

I don't have a big boat like you c-22 and c-26 sailors, but I have found that a swivel cam cleat works best for my one-sail Man-o-war design.

We replaced the clam cleat on our C-22 with a cam cleat. I like the swivel idea though! We can usually release the sheet from the opposite side of the boat. My husband single hands alot so he found it works fine. But them again Im not with him so I'll never know how many times he came close to being knocked over in heavy wind.

Crewed with a friend on a Southcoast and he had similar to swivel cam cleats, they were on a bracket like that, but didn't swivel - was nice. I have the clams but am looking at changing

I like the idea of the swivel cam cleat. So I thank I will go the way.

Here is the ticket and when i get a few bucks i'm going to get two. Going too the lewward side of the boat in 20+ mph winds is not a good idea, much less if you are single handing it.
