Curious, what are you doing to clean up the mast.. paint it? polish it with simchrome or something like that.. mine is really dirty and dill in alot of spots

I sanded mine down etched it and then painted it with Awlgrip silver. Looks like brand new.

I know one thing. I would rather sand and paint then sew. I am trying to learn to sew and the only thing I have taught myself so far is I paint better then a sew.

Funny.
I spent a frustrating evening sewing a cover for the companion way!
Tomorrwo I get to sew another!! Hopefully it will go faster!

Funny, fool that I am I have this idea that I will make my own cabin cushions over the long winter... even bought me a sewing machine, not to get some fabric and figure all this out. It would be great that as we are doing these projects that we put up patterns on the site for all to share. where were you going to put the companion way cover? in place of teh hatch boards?

actually over the boards to protect them when the boat is not in use.

Once done, I'm going to redo the boards to look new.

I will have patterns for all the cushions in my C-26 when I am done. I am redoing everything. However it will take a bit of time. This winter I am just working on the top part of my dodger bimini. I will also have a pattern for that.

All in all Sewing sucks!

I would make a comment about trading in your "man card" for sewing patterns, but I won't, since I'm about to borrow my brother's Ultrafeed to finish my mainsail kit that he got for my birthday last year. Plus, if I rag you guys too much, you won't trade me your patterns.

I'm glad to see someone else is doing a companionway cover as well, but I have zero faith in my sewing abilities so I had it made, we get leaks during a driving rain, leaking in all the tropical storms this storm season, and to protect it from the harsh sun, next is the salon cushions so I enter my plea for patterns also, but if you need to thaw out Ron the working/sailing vacation is still on the table, still haven't finished the holding tank, seems a crappy job to me at my old age.

Got the second companion way cover done tonight. Now I need to get some snaps and get the covers on!

It went faster tonight. Less sewing machine issues ( read USER issues )
Some of my lines are even a tad straighter! LOL!

I'm using blue thread on blue sunbrella so it is hard to see my screw-ups!
When I get better I'll use the cool white thread!

Soon the Lady's will have nice covers and I can get to work on the boards!

Ok, Ok, /...it is ok to trade sewing patterns..not recipes...( unless it is for hot chili or bbq suauce) I got a Brother sewing machine off ebay...hope it will work on sunbrella canvass..what are you guys using...now nothing about sewing but hell, got togive the mig welder a rest. ( and it is one of the few jobs my boatyard will let me do w/o paying them)

Great seeing you again! Nice clean looking Honu you have there too!
That pop top is very nice! Get the canvas covers figured out and I think you have a good thing going for evening cooking and camping overnight!

Yes, you have the ideas I'm thinking of down pretty good. I'm not terribly concerned over the drilling of holes in "Lady Jo" companion way hatch. I'll likely go that route in some fashion. As far as Velcro? Na. Not there. I agree it will not likely hold up for more than a couple of years. Once I get the cover installed, I'll photograph it and share here.

I am thinking that velcro would work to make a hinged flap or cover over the lock though. Not sure yet. I'll have to think about it!

My mast was covered with brown over spray from the fabrication shop where it was stored. I used some paint remover and then I got a spray bottle of super clean which did a terriffic job!!

Note: the super clean should not be left on aluminum for an extended period of time. I rinsed it with water immediatally afterwards.
