I would not do anything with the gap until you are ready to re-install the toe rail. You can force some butyl caulk into whatever gaps that might have opened up. The small ridge at edge of the deck, seats the top leg of the toe rail, the hull should pull outward toward the rail when start to tighten...

The side decks have a plywood core, the cabin sides and top are a phenolic honeycomb. I removed vinyl strip without any problem, try to blast away any dirt or crud.

Cleaning house

In my futile attempt to organize, consolidate and liquidate a portion my accumulation of 40+ years of stuff, I ran across a few dozen issues of Wooden Boat magazine that I had saved. Scanning over the photos of those wonderful wooden creations make me appreciate my plastic boats. We all have issues ...

I setup my original Catalina 25 rudder on the Maudie Kay just to see what the modification might look like. The Cat rudder is approximately 540 sq. inches and the C 26 rudder is 690 sq. inches, the Cat rudder being about 78% the size of the Chrysler. The Cat rudder would need about 6" taken off...

I have toyed with the idea of building a " outboard powered rudder " which might eliminate the problems associated with the rudder and factory motor mount. The only real drawback would be having the prop freewheel when not actually driving the boat. Trying to get the thrust point close to ...

I have purchased mild steel tube and bar from this company. Their pricing is reasonable and shipping costs are not too bad. They carry SS but no round tubing.

Although I have not purchased any items from this company, their prices are about the lowest I've found for Stainless Steel fasteners.

Any thing over 1/4" would be overkill. I do not know the thickness of the material that IDA uses on their kick up rudder posts or what MacGregor uses for theirs but I'd almost be willing to bet that it is not even 1/4". The next big issue I have with rudder is the mushrooms, a good idea, b...

I sketched that up this morning (at work) from the vague memory I have of the dimensions from rudder post. I repaired my post after yours broke earlier this year, I think, and after looking at the design and the failures reported I came up with this idea but never put it to paper (PC). Carbon transf...

I would save a few bucks and go with 304 SS. If the boat was constantly in salt water, 316 would be the best choice but since your boat is basically a fresh water boat 304 will work fine. The biggest improvement will be going with the .25" wall tube instead of the doubled up version used on the...

Sails

Does anyone know might have made the sails for Chrysler? I finally unfurled the main from the Maudie Kay and it was made by Obstad and it looks to be in great shape for a sail from the late seventies, my guess is that it is a replacement.

Has anyone used Sail Care for cleaning and repairs?
