51.75 knots SOG!

At least thats what she did on her trailer on her way home.
Man, I can't wait for spring, so we can go sailing!

Sorry Alan thats all I've ever done with her. (yes, I'm slightly bitter)

mmmm I've been up to 7 knots with a good wind, mostly 6 knots (I know when water starts to squirt up the rudder tube) This are fairly fast little boats, I know a Chrysler can outsail a bunch of modern boats.

I have gotten my C26 up to 6.4 knots (GPS confirmed).

But why limit to these lengths? As I have stated before, My Chrysler LS16 was at 35 knots (estimate; 40- 45 knot wind, full run, wing on wing, 3 - 5 knots apparent from the stern) on Lake Washington. The HobieCat didn't have a chance.

Your right, how fast have any of your Chryslers gone?

I figured the speeds off the other Chryslers would make out bigger cruisers seem somewhat less impressive.

51.75 Knots, very good indeed. We will just have to wait to see how fast it can go off the trailer. I would have said in the water but it might have been raining while you were sailing down the highway so that would have been in the water too.

Thanks
Alan

I have had my 26 checked on radar by the local Police dept. at 7 MPH and tried to overstep their auth. as I was in a no wake zone. My crew was a USCG officer and when they tried to give me a ticket when we started the outboard and docked and he stated the engine was not running and made us exempt from the speed limit and they asked him for ID when they started pulling out the cuffs and then went and bought us both coffee to stay out of trouble when they found out that every law enforcement boat in the area was to be stopped when caught on the water and I dropped a name and said the Sheriffs dept. would not like that. The same officers had a Plane with floats land and checked lic. he was an official with FAA. Some people get all the bad breaks.

I'd be in the running with a Chrysler Dagger! LOL!

I've been extremely fast on my old 18' Solcat too! I learned I could intentionally fill the pontoons with some water to keep her flat but my son and I snapped a shroud one day in Puget Sound with quite a blow. Had to get my first tow home in a sailboat! :)

Now if has to be a displacement hull, I've done 12Kts SOG in Destiny.
That however was in Malibu Rapids with a 6 kt following current! LOL!
We have that one on video!

I however have not used GPS aboard the C22's so I guess I don't fit the criteria to be judged.

max speed

Post by robinsonzak »

Our last in the Sea of Cortez we had 20+ Kts wind from our stern with tall and steep wind waves... We hit 9 Kts surfing down the face of several of the waves. There were only a few times I was scared enough to hand steer, the rest of the time the autopilot steered us true. I was pretty impressed with my 50 dollar junkyard autopilot to say the least.

The same night we let the inflatable dinghy out on a 35 foot painter line so it wouldnt end up in the cockpit. Several times we found ourselves fending off the dinghy as it surfed down the waves as well.

Only having the 170 genoa last season it didn't matter what wind we had I know I had it going fast but nothing but feeing to go by ans I think I heard Scotty say " Thats all she got captioon she cant hold at dhess speedz." or my 1st mate saying things I wont repeat. I tell her hull speed is 5knts and she can walk faster but it still scares her when the windows get washed...lol

Well for us in our C-22 Pam's top speed is 7.0kts and mine is 7.2kts by GPS on a lake, no currents.... Geeze I did that conversion and I like mph better...

Hey Scott I would like to see your video of Destiny in the currents on the video links thread!!

my Newport was basically a planing hull and I was on a downwind run in 18kt wind with the keel up and passing power boaters and about every third or fourth wave I got to surf and you could feel the speed change. That was a fun boat but she had alot of sail area for a boat her size 19' boat 24.5' mast deck stepped and a main luff of 23' she was a fun boat but it could get wild real quick.

Top speed

Post by frankyd »

My record in my 26' chrysler is 9.8 mph down wind in a gale with the main double reefed and jib furled. I dropped all my sail coming downwind into my marina inlet and the boat would not slow down. Boat did slow down when I turned into the marina and wind became broadside.

I average 4-5 mph generaly and hull speed seems to be around 6.8 - 7 mph.

All numbers based on gps logs,
Frank

It seems like alot of boat to tow that distance. making my vehicle more towing suitable is next on my project list.

I know mine won't go at any speed if I don't get working on the projects.

Call me chicken but the only time I like to push the speed sailing is on a sunfish that is easy to bail from and turn back over when you flip them ...and oh yea have I fliped them.

With my C26 I have been at 7 knot quite a few time. Record while surfing is 10.4 knot (GPS was set-up to show average of 5 seconds, so actual top was probably a little more)... And it was with a fully loaded boat, engine prop dragging in water and towing a dinghy... clearly over-canvased :P

7 kt on this one
