Bucc self bailers

Ok...finally had a little break in the weather and got the ice and snow outta the Bucc cockpit. After a little gentle encouragement I got the self bailers open. The PO told me there was duct tape over the bottom to keep them from leaking. I want them to work correctly. Which way should I go, the original type or replace with the newer style? Also can't find the vang block unless it's buried in one of the hatches. Is there a best source for one or does anyone have one lying around they'd like to get rid of?

As the weather gives me the opportunity I'm slowly gettin' the ol' boat cleaned up.

I'm not a Bucc. guy (wish I was), but I do know a great one.
I'm going to pass this on to him immediately.

Vic,
Here's the skinny from one of the best.

I will scan my Bucc info from home and get the relevant material for him. I put in one new one on my boat and it works well. If I remember correctly the old ones are not recommended. The problem with only mounting one new one is it is mounted off center and only bales on a starboard tack

I'm no expert on the Bucc but I had a Dagger for many years.
If the original bailers are the same, they suck. When moving along nicely they work perfect however as we all know as sailors the wind does not always cooperate! When there is no wind, the Dagger bailer leaked a bit even when brand new.

I aslo sailed sunfish for many years and found their bailers much better at not leaking when ghosting along.

If it were me I'd look for a better bailer setup.

Thanks guys, I'm grateful. j42, look forward to receiving the rest of the info.

I don't believe I'd replace just one as there is one on each side of the rib that runs down the center of the boat and behind the centerboard housing. Both would have to be replaced I would think or you will end up with the situation your friend alluded to.
