Track Question

My C-22 is coming along. I noticed I have a track up the front of the mast when I pulled it out of storage. Haven't had foresails before. Is this for a whisker pole or ???? Also have a track on the middle of the foredeck from just aft of the nav light, back about 6'. Please enlighten the poliwog what the heck these are for!!!!

The track on the mast is for a spinnaker or whisker pole but I am not sure about the track on the deck. If it was for a self tacking jib it would be perpendicular to what you describe.

The track up the front of the mast is for the whisker or spinnaker pole. It allows you to adjust the angle of the pole for the size of head sail your flying. West Marine has artical on it at; http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... ntrols.htm
As for the track on the bow...I have seen shorter tracks mounted with a shroud and tackle on a car and the shroud mounted mid way up the mast that would be used along with a back stay tensioner to bend/rake the mast on racing boats. But a track that is 6' long...

I'm sure the racers out there can add insight.

The track on the fore deck is probably for the spinnaker pole downhaul.

all the down hauls I have ever used were setup like a boomvang secured to the base of the mast
