Sailboat on the water

I got the Mac. 25 in, going sailling today. One less boat in drive way, hope to put the C-26 in next week. The Mac. will be sailed to it,s new slip 20 miles from my home. The C-26 slip is only 1 mile from home. Bouth boats will be sailed on Lake Huron (saginaw bay) My C-20 will be trailered to in land lakes. Michigan has a lot of lakes, I wont to sail on some of then before I get to old. @ 63 the yeary are flying by. Happy Sailing To All

Good going ! I've been a slug this spring, it's a sad thing when you guys way up there are getting boats wet and down here in the warm sunny south spring I haven't yet....

My hats off to you... it's hard enough for me to just keep this one overhaul going and you have three boats for all practical purposes already in the water.

... a-a-and here I am doing things backwards again! You're getting boats in the water and starting to sail. Me, I'm hauling my boat out of the water. What's wrong with this picture? Too bad I don't have enough time to sail her from St Pete up to the Chesapeake somewhere.

Seriously, have fun with your three girls. That has to make it tough to decide where to sail today.

It was nice on the bay, not much wind, maybe 5 nots. 5 to 10 nots with 0 to 1 foot waves is ideal for a 1983 25' 2500# Mac. (69 Shark) wonted Photos ? This is a Chrysler Sailers Forum, so we need some sort of volt, on weather it would be OK to post photos an info on a MacGregor.( EE )sorry about the BIG OIL SPILL, you do sail on a in land lake, So I hope you start sailling soon. (sail bob 2) I will call you, this week end lookes to be too stormy for the Mac. so I will take my car, or truck to Au Gres an leve it there ontill I sail the boat to its new slip. Also thanks to the list of safty gear that 69 Shark was nice enouf to post, I have to do a littel shopping. Just a littel note to all you back yard sailers all work an no play, not good. Get them on the water thay are sail boats not work boats. Happy Sailling to All

I too have launched this weekend..Lots of rain yesterday, but my better half and I are going out today...who knows, we may even get a line wet...the stripped bass are hitting pretty good right now...

I launched on Friday. Sailed about 2 miles out with a nice little 8 knot wind then completely calm. We sat and ate lunch for about 30 min and moved maybe 50 feet.

Here she is in her slip stuffed between two Catalina 22's

I see I need to tighten the forestay, the mast does lean back quite a ways.

Not much wind here in western Pa today, but we enjoyed the beautiful weather, along with a little kayaking just to mix it up ...

As you might be able to see , we went with an electric motor...HMMM Its quiet and no fumes....Well see how the summer goes before we make any kind of hard oponion

I had been thinking electric as well. What size are you using and do you consider it sufficient?

( My Time ) Nice Boat. OK I have been in the water 3days, an have sailed 4 hr. each day with a 5 to 10 wind. Sailling a long at 3 to 4 m.p.h. this Mac. has been siting in my drive way the past 2 years, good to be sailling it agin. This year I will sail all 3 boats, sail boats are made to be sailed , not sit in drive ways. Happy Sailling

Nice, nice pic Skyking ! I was using a 45# troller on the Cal 21 to test sail the boat (which does weight a lot less than the Chrysler) and found it fine at half throttle.

I say "was" because we rounded a buoy, heard a loud noise, and after scanning all the rigging, etc for the reason I noticed the trolling motor was missing from the mount. In 35' feet of water. Somewhere back near that buoy I bet.

A safety line on there would have been an idea worth a couple hundred bucks there, huh

Hi Paul,

I have a 52# thrust, and as EE as stated, half throttle is fine.

Were in a lake environment and I like it so far..

75.00 for the motor on craigs list 75.00 for a deep cycle battery..

Noe I need a solar panal.....any suggestions would be appriciated

All this talk about electric motors... I've not seen or read a post of anyone trying such a thing on a c26. In a lake environment is there one with enough thrust to push around a c26? Having no motor right now all options are open. Has anyone out there ever tried one on a c26 or would the thrust needed to push around a c26 coat more than a conventional motor?

I have moved EE from her slip to the nearby launch ramp when the outboard died once. Calm day, no wind, the electric did get it there, but very very slowly. Would have been a no go any other time.

MinnKota makes one they bill as "2HP" but WM sells it for a couple grand

I had a feeling in the back of my mind such would be the case... as far as cost goes the conventional motor still out performs anything electric.

We continue to have schedule setbacks. We started out aiming for May 1, but weather delayed our painting and scheduling conflicts got in the way. Then last weekend, May 22, we planned to launch and spend the weekend on the boat until the alternator on the truck quit on the way to pick up the boat.

Wish us luck this weekend fighting the holiday crowds.
