What ARE these things?

OK, let's start with the mast, since we can't even begin to sail until that is fixed. What are these things that hold the spreaders(?) called and where do I find new ones? As you can see both of mine are cracked. I'm guessing that pop-rivets, as used for the originals, will be sufficient to install them? ETA: According to D&R Marine they are called spreader brackets, they are installed with ss pop rivets, and they are $14 a piece. Just in case someone else is looking for them

Still on the mast ... are these just rubber boots that cover some kind of joint or something more than they appear? ETA: Yep, they are spreader boots and D&R marine has them in two different sizes.

These are cleats, right? And from their position I'm betting they control the jib. As you can see, they are OLD and in need of replacement. Am I likely to find some that use the same holes in the deck?

And this thing is (I think) a gudgeon and a pintle to hold the rudder on the transom. But for the life of me I have no idea what the little piece that appears to be broken off of something else could be. Do any of you know what that is?

And last, but not least, this plate is the only thing I can find anywhere on the boat that might be considered a hull identification number. But it doesn't follow any of the formats I've been able to find anywhere. Have any of you ever seen anything like it or know how to read it?

Picture #4 is a cam cleat. Are you sure they need replaced? They aren't pretty but do the springs still close firmly and are the still solid? Would a tooth brush and something like Fantastic or Simple Green clean them up? That's what the ones for my jib sheets look like. I'm sorry I can't tell you anything about what's available cuz I'm greener than you.

In picture #5 that little broken thing looks like it might be what's left of the spring that holds the rudder in. Everyone tells me not to trust it but that's on a Bucc. Probably more prone to capsize than your boat.

Gee...I might have answered my very first questions correctly!!!! If I didn't, please let me down easy....

You're right Vic, they ain't pretty, but they do appear to function well enough. And I suppose they will suffice until I strip the entire deck for re-painting.

There's a spring to hold the rudder in? Wonder if it was just a clip type of thing that I can have fabricated, 'cause I'm betting that part isn't available any more.

As for letting you down easy, I have neither the experience nor knowledge to criticize anyone on this forum.

BTW: Love the moniker! I actually fired a Thompson Contender that was chambered for .45-70. What a blast! And I have a real soft spot for the Sharps .45-110 from Quigley Down Under. Someday I'd like to own one of those, but I'd settle for a 70 or 90 version.

Well...on my Bucc it's kind of a spring retainer. You push it toward the stern and slide the rudder in and it snaps back out over that part of the rudder. I don't know that the broken part on your boat is that but it appears so. I can't think of any reason why you couldn't have one made.

The 40-2.5(70) is my target rifle. I have another Shiloh Sharps in 45-2.4(90) for hunting and a Ballard 1 1/2 in 45-2.6(100) cuz I wanted one. In my experience, if you're shooting black powder, one is better off to stay at 90 grains or below due to fouling. I like to never got the 45-2.6 to shoot to suit me. I probably shouldn't start talking guns, especially old guns....I get excited and lose all sense of decorum

I've fired the Contender in 45-2.1(70) and yes, it's a handful but what a hoot!!

I had a "B" set off an old mast that I just modified to use as a out-haul bracket on my boom. I have the "A"' bracket on my c-22 mast.

One of the tabs at the end of my broom had broke off and it made hooking up the outhaul and topping lift cluttered. I cut the remaining tab off and replaced it with this.
