Sail #2

I promise not to bore the daylights outta you guys with every sail but it is only my second time.....so forgive my enthusiasm.

Lighter and more variable winds than 1st time out. Is it because I'm so green or is it just a little tough to keep things moving in really light winds? The wind was changing directions quite a bit more today also. Had me a little befuddled a time or twict even watching the true wind indicator and waves. Even with that going on once in a while we'd get a short gust and the boat would....well, you guys know the feeling better than me. What a hoot!

Took a friend with me to run the jib. He's been contemplating building a boat, the weekender, but wanted to see if he would really like it before diving in....wise man. He's a sharp guy and picked up on the jib pretty fast and whether he does anything or not he had a great time....as did I.

Annnddd...the highlight of the day! I went out to the shop and cut about 20 feet of the yellow line we use for all manner of things in construction. Tied it to the forestay and that annoying fitting went right through the block without a hitch....EUREKA!!! Life is good and rigging the boat has become a pleasure instead of a dread.

I'm learning things about little lakes in the Ozarks. First off you can't get going long enough to study your sails, (I have to study them yet...can't take a snap look and know!), learn to trim them to their opitmum for the current condition or any of the other fine points of sailing. You just get going and the wind changes in one way or another then before you get to figure that out it's time to tack, then the wind changes on that tack and you have to head off in a different direction than was initially indicated. I suppose it's the same on all waters only on a larger scale but it would sure be nice to trim the sails to the basic requirement, fine tune them and just enjoy the experience for more than a few seconds. A few more trips on this little lake and I'll be looking for bigger water.

I gotta tell this one story on Cliff, my friend who went along. Now bear in mind that Cliff is not the most athletic individual, his abilities lie elsewhere. The best gust we got the boat heeled over and took off...as that type of boat does...I told Cliff...this isn't fast yet...He looked at me with big eyes and said "it's not...seems pretty fast to me!". No big thing and I guess you had to be there.

LOL Vic Even the guys I was talking to at the marina that have been sailing decades get enthused to talk about their last sail, you'll find its not something that just goes away.

I'm still hyped about our last sail. #3 for us with the C-26 and it deffinetly could be called a charm.

And believe it or not I'm just itching to find a C-13 or C-15 to play with, an adrenalin rush when you get them moving along. I'm sure each time will get better as you get the feel for the boat

Alan....there ain't a heckuva lot of pictures to take on a 100 acre lake.....unless ya wanna see an overweight guy in his late 50's acting like he's not......and I'm not certain I can take pictures and sail at the same time!!!!

but I'll try...to not feed the camera to the fish!

I was out yesterday and in 15kn wind out of the south which meant with narrow river alot of tacking by myself and another boat a Catalina 27 full keel with 2 aboard were keeping up to me tack for tackand when we decided to head back I started to lower the main and they said see you next time and headed north after flaking the main I opened up the 170 genoa with a whisker pole to starboard and in 7 min I was saying the same thing to them. When they went past my mooring I had already made supper and coffee.

Also as already noted, a few pictures would be nice!
Maybe leave your crew ashore to snap a shot or two! Then pick them up!
