I choose expensive hobbies

I rode street motorcycles for 25 years before I bought a brand new one. And then two years later I finally achieved a dream I'd had since 1976, I bought a Harley Davidson. And that was when I first heard that the motorcycle was just a down-payment on the accessories. As time went on I learned that the "HD" on other rider's clothing did not stand for Harley Davidson, it stood for HUNDRED DOLLARS which is the least you can spend in a Harley store. I don't think they even sell accessories for the bike that sell for less than $100.

So it's nice to know that I have kept true to that trend and chosen another expensive hobby, sailing! I just ordered my new running rigging for the LS-16. No taxes and free shipping, but it's still $170 for the ropes to run a 16' sailboat. I think the LS does not really stand for Lone Star. It really stands for Lo Siento, which is Spanish for "I'm Sorry (but you are going to have to pay three times as much for that because it's for a boat)"

Yes, sailing adds up if you want to keep things nice!! Good thing is you can do things yourself and save some money!!

I may have posted this on another thread, but I found the best deals on running rigging and dock lines at the link below. $0.53 per ft for 3/8" yacht braid, It's without a doubt the best deal out there. This stuff is EXACTLY like Sta-Set (I have no personal affiliation of any kind with this vendor). Just thought if I could save anyone a few bucks, it would be a good thing!

You know it's a well known fact that HD makes more on their clothing and such than they make on the bikes, and those are 20k a pop. As for boats Break Out Another Thousand.

I found a great sailboat consignment shop in Oriental that has great prices on any thing you could be looking for.

But doing as many repairs yourself makes a big difference.

Every man needs a place of seclusion from time to time. Where he can sort out his past, present and future. For some it's 18 holes of golf, others a H.D. at 100 mph will suffice. For me it's overhauling this old Chrysler... in short is there a price tag on someone's peace of mind?

Mario... does this consignment shop have a web page?

If he is talking about the store right off the city docks, that place ain't that cheap, your best bet is www.defender.com for parts and stuff for the boat.

I'll never recover what I got into "CRYSTA" but what the heck she's given me so much pleasure and adventure that the cost has become irrelevant. Even doing all the work myself the cost, to me, was astronomical but the education and satisfaction of doing it myself "Priceless"

Hey Gus I did get my solar povered vent cover for a $1 to replace one that I lost in the storm and the 1st mate found a full body wet suit for $35 I did see alot of cheap anchors and sails, just none for my C-26. I have to go back with out the compony of my 1st mate and her friend. If anything it was nice to walk around.

Mike I think we all feel your pain.

-Motorcycles: got 3 (2 of which are older than I)
-Surfing: average board price now;$600+
-Sailing: no explenation needed.
-Guns: dear Lord don't get me started.
-Golf: just switched to disc golf (check it out)
finally found something that I could get into for les than $50.
Damn, is it fun too.
-Hot Rods: finally sold em' all!
-Tractors: 2 constantly need love.

Having toys for me and the family, and always living life on "island time"... priceless!
