Boat painting

Recently inherited a 1976 Mutineer and the gel coat is faded beyond restoration. I have decided a paint job is in order but have no idea what would be the best paint to use for a do it your self back yard application. Would like to keep to the original Yellow bottom and looking for suggestions.

I believe you'l get yourself an answer shortly since we have had several boats get painted recently!!

We used Urethane for ours and I have never painted before and it seemed to be fairly straight forward...

remember to use a good degreaser/ wax remover cleaner prior to spraying your paint...

Surface preparation is key, I second the degreaser/wax remover. We used the West Marine branded one part paint. It was done with the roll and tip method. Easier than we thought, just believe it when everyone says "don't go back over any areas, just keep going."

A solid piece of advice. Tomorrow I will spend a couple hours of time in the sun sanding instead of sailing because I didn't believe it !

I also used the one part Interlux
