all most sunk a stink pot!
There are few things that bother me while sailing however when I am coming into a dock and I am the only boat there and 20 yards from docking, it drives me crazy when stink pots decide they get the dock first because they travel a bit faster. It was a near miss, to put it mildly. I kicked it into reverse so hard that the motor itself twisted on the mount. I got stopped but my only by a few feet. If his boat was not full of his kids I would of sunk him!
the funny thing, was there were three other docks side by side, I have no clue what he wanted that one so much

There are idiots out there everywhere you go.
Whether in a car, motorcycle, boat, or even a bicycle.
How you react top such lunacy will be remembererd in the minds of your crew and family.
I'm glad you did not sink the idiot. Just smile and wave knowing that he will likely be the next guy that gets towed in.

I had a guy do donuts around me, while he was on a plain and I was soloing on Puget Sound. I was up on the bow hooking up the jib at the time. He really was trying to knock me off the boat. He thought it was really funny. I had to secure everything and make my way back to the cabin and just sit and drift for about 20 minutes to cool off. I have not been that ticked off in a long, long, long time.

I am not as easy-going or polite as that. I believe I would have thrown a heaving line out across his path in the hope of fouling his prop. I like the flare gun idea too, but unfortunately my brother LEO's would consider that reckless endangerment.Alanhod wrote:I had a guy do donuts around me -Alan

I just smile and wave. If they're lucky I might even use all my fingers.

I was just trying to hang on, the wake was tossing my like the tiddy bowl man going down fast. I always wear a life vest and I thought I was going to need it. Some how I managed to hit my head too and it really rang my bell while all this was going on.

Just got back from a 5 day trip and on the way back we had a stinkpot that was having fun buzzing in and out of the 3 sailboats and he did not realize that he was approaching Esopus meadows and we got him to go on our port and we had been talking about him for 20 min and we got into a formation and the shallowest draft boat went as close to the shallow water. We forced him to go on the wrong side of the light house and it was 6" of water.
You would be surprised how long you can make a sailboat when you are towing a dinghy. 3 boats 3 dinghies and plenty of line with length of boats almost 350 feet.

Next summer will probably be a little tougher on the power boats, when gas prices climb the pay for BP's mistake in the Gulf. I also think it will get real interesting on the Great Lakes now that the Chinese Head Slapping Carp have been found in Lake Michigan, they love power boaters.

Oh man, that is nice EE.
But wait, it says residence of Washington State, "Please check your local laws for restrictions before ordering..."
Dang, have to go to Oregon to buy one. Though you really should balance the load on the boat and get two.
THanks

in the past about 4 years ago I was sailing my Newport and Bass boats always gave me a hard time at the launch ramp so when one needed a tow I said no problem so I came around and he threw me a line and I tied it off to a cleat and then he asked when I was going to start the motor and I told him when the wind stops and if he did not like it he could paddle and I would cut him loose. He shut up in a hurry and I took a picture to show at the fishing tournament.

Instead of telling the the 1st mate to brace for wakes when good ol bubba rolls thru I normally tell her to man the canons, she understands. i do have my 45 cal. black powder pistal hanging next to the table as decoration (yea thats it its just a decoration
)
here on the coast we haven't had any problems but the occational power motel (big cruisers)that thinks they don't need to slow down while passing in the channels

Can get nuts here in Saginaw Bay, Michigan also. One time I was crossing the Bay had "CRYSTA"s autopilot engaged as I was on the bow. Had this old fart stop in front of me and drop his anchor. Ran/stumbled back to the helm disengaged the auto pilot and made a quick tack while waving the one finger salute - he just waved back. - LOL Never seems to surprise me how many rude uneducated boaters are on the water.
