Substitute Monday Question Wrapped Up

Post by EmergencyExit »

Since we were otherwise distracted this Monday, I thought I'd throw in a Monday Question - double click on the thumb below and answer the question "what's wrong here ?" If it helps to have a hint, the pic was taken out my car window aboard the St. Francisville/New Roads ferry.

OK,
I'll byte . . .

At a glance I see this is a throwable device including life ring, buoy, and floating strobe. All good things.

However if this were my vessel, I'd want the bitter end of the throw line tied to the boat. This allows the captain to circle a person in the water making the line easier to grab for them.

Second, I'd knot tie the life ring to the hooks no matter how loose the ties are.

Lastly, it appears the life ring just might not slide off easily due to the bracket just above the life ring. That is either a serious flaw or maybe a camera perspective issue.

Scott.

OK, who's next . . . . ?

I'll agree with Scott, with the addition that it looks like a tangled knot ready to happen...If someone trys to throw the thing it may not even make it to the water because of the tangles
Safety gear must be ready to use, in this case a instruction place card may also be good.

I'm glad to have others to build on. I second their stuff. I kept trying to trace the lines but they run out of the picture. So, in addition to the above I would add that the lines in the expanded view look to be really old poly and that the name of the vessel is not centered with equal portions showing on both sides of the top hook.

Thanks for getting us started, Scott!

All good points. But the one thing that caught my eye sticks out like a red flag.

I don't know that ferry but if you took this out your window it is inside not near the sides as they usually have cars in close to center. As I said I don't know this ferry as a matter of fact I have only been on a ferry once.

LOL, that was it.

Kudos to Capt Scott, Paul and others who've gotten you all so focused on safety and proper equipment usuage that everyone focused on that aspect of the pic !

But yes, the official plaque mispelled (misspelled ?) "LIFE BOUY" was why I took the pic.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled weekly safety question..
