As you know I purchased another C22 named ForPlay. As Alan so elegantly mentioned the lines were in less than stellar condition! LOL! They had Shrek ears growing from them and could be easily broken by simply pulling on them! YIKES! Instead of working the lines, I simply threw them all away!

So I contacted Sailing Services Inc in Florida for replacement line. They had the best prices I could find for Sta-Set X and YachtBraid lines. Much better than West Marine, etc.

Here is what I will order and their quoted price!

90' of 3/8 Sta-Set X with blue Flake ( I will split for two halyard tails )
40' of 3/8 Sta-Set X with red Flake ( jib sheet)
40' of 3/8 Sta-Set X with green Flake ( jib sheet)
35' of 3/8 Regatta Braid White. ( main sheet)
Total? $162.29!!

FYI:
Sta-Set X 3/8 List .96 per foot less 15% ( not sure why ) .82 per foot.
Regatta Braid 3/8 List .77 per foor less 15% ( not sure why) .654 per foot.

WOW! I like them prices! I suspect I'll pay some shipping. but hey, it will likely come close to our tax in this state!

Please note: I will be splicing the needed eyes myself so I have probably saved 5 bucks a splice. Also I have ordered each line longer than original. The halyard tails will be long enough to run aft as necessary. All lines will be about 5 feet longer than necessary. The reason is for my splicing. It will leave plenty of room for the splice and a possible mess up every now and then! LOL!

I will update here as to how fast delivery and how well the service seems!
If you order exact fit lines you can cut down on costs even more!

Just thought I'd share what I believe to be very reasonable prices!

Ah, I crack myself up. Well I am clearly easily amused.

Hey looks like I will get to learn splicing next too. I've never purchased all new lines for a boat but that sounds like a good deal to me.

Here's a good step by step with article with pictures I used to figure out how to do an eye splice in double braided rope. My 1st attempt did not look as good as the one in that photo, but the next one will be closer, lol.

i was trying to figure out some new lines for my new c22, and it appears you,ve done the hard work for me. thanks. the only question i have is to the way the lines attach to the wire part of the halyards. on mine the po simply used a couple of wire rope clamps on the line thru the thimble.
is this were you intend to splice eyes/

That is excellent. I thought there was some machine in some factory that did these splices that looked like this. There goes at least 2 hours of my weekend.

BC, I can't remember exactly how my cable leaders attach to the ropes. I will look and get back to you on that.

Wow, hard to believe I power washed this boat in October and it looks this bad already. More power washing in order it seems, followed briskly by this years wax job.

Thanks man! My last purchase was from onlineropestore.com, where I got the flecked Sta Set (not X) for $0.52 per foot. That was the cheapest I could find at the time. I just wanted to make a comparison.

Apparently it's $0.56 now. It doesn't use the Sta Set brand name, but it's the same line.

Here are the prices of the line and I'll also modify my original post so you don't have to scroll every time.

The reason I went with Regatta braid on the main sheet is two fold.
First is simply comfort. 3/8 line is not exactly easy on the hands when under load. 1/2 is much better but does not fit my blocks so I went with a more comfortable line on the main sheet that kinks much less.

Second, it was cheaper!

A little stretch on the mainsheet is ok since I don't race!

Scott, thanx for the good info...I am also going to replace all the lines on my boat. I just had a birthday this past week, (62)...and have some money burning a hole in my pocket.
I downloaded the splicing manuals from Samson and New England Ropes and bought a set of fids from West Marine. Spliced some 1/4 inch Sta Set for my old Newport 16. Only did 2 eye splices with metal thimbles in them. They both turned out fine, but found that the smallest fid that I had only worked for the first half of the operation. When I got to the later part of the splicing steps the fid would not fit thru the rope...too tight!!!
I ended up using a nylon tie wrap cable tie as a fid...I think that a crotchet hook my work also on the small stuff. The fids should work well with 3/8 rope though.

Just make sure you read and measure twice.
