Interesting discovery . . . .

Post by CaptainScott »

As you know I stepped the mast on Forplay about a week ago.

I've been looking at her since and always thight something was different. The stays just looked to be attatched in a different spoy on the mast.

Today my lights came on and outside I went with a tape measure. It seems Lady Jo's mast is almost exactly 2 feet LONGER than ForPlays!

WOW! Who'd have thunk! LOL!

So a quick look at the C22 Manual and I guess there were indeed TWO masts used for the C22!So U check my serial numbers and sure enough, one is before 33152 and one is AFTER 33152! It would seem I have one long original mast and one short original mast!

Now you have to keep them labeled so you don't try and step the long mast with the short stays! You'd get to about 7/8 uprigtht and get stuck.

OH what a sight! Up goes the mast with my new gin pole . . . . . .

3/4 of the way up it comes to a stop. I look for the snag . . . . can't find it . . . . crank some . .. . . .hmmm, still tight . . .. still no snag . . . . . crank some . . .more . . . . . . . CRACK! the whole system falls to the port sid since the starboard shrouds just pulled out of the deck dropping the mast on a brand new shiney power boat! LOL!

Having once gotten EE's mast in a bind about 80% of the way down and ripped the mast hook plate off the boat I can assure it makes quite the sound when the mast hits the boat and then the ground...

Okay so wait a moment...

Captain Scott,

Back in 2009 you and I measured Lady Jo's mast at 26'6". Later that same week I measured my mast at 26'6". And we estimated that FourPlay's mast was 26'. Did we measure the mast of the C-22 you sold and not Lady Jo's mast. Is Lady Jo's mast 29 feet?

Thanks
Alan

That must be the 'tall rig" that they refer to when shopping for new sails. A new main is not in the budget for this year but note to self "measure".
Thanks for the serial number info, every time I check this site out I learn something new.
