Online Cruising Guides

Post by thepartydog »

Here are a couple that I am using:

Active Captain. Interactive charts/maps, reviews, seems up to date, with one exception.

Salty South East: more like a current situations message board, doesn't extend into the western gulf, tho.

I like Active Captain, I think it's the best online guide out there. Recently I ran across http://www.managingthewaterway.com/ . They have a sale going right now. I bought a DVD set of electronic charts for $15. They also use twitter as an interactive up to the minute updater for their guide books which I believe is an excellent idea. The guide books are on sale, too.

I love Active Captain! Great information from real people with real experiences. Info on shoaling not yet on charts and other hazards, marina updates, cruising ground opinions . . .

Does anyone recall the name of the site for small boats traveling far distances?

If you're thinking about a really LONG trip to go on -- take a look at this.

Now that's taking SBLD to extremes.

No kidding! Holy cow! Very beautiful! I love to see those things, but I'm a southern boy and would freeze to death. I hate cold for long periods. The picture with the still water and fog . . . I just can't imagine that kind of cold solitude. Solitude I like . . . cold not so much.

I do envy folks who sail those places. Thanks for that link! It was very good.
