Spring front hatch c22

Post by Beady »

Does anybody have a source for the spring (hatch prop) for the front hatch on a C22. I broke mine and the front hatch will not stay up without attaching a line to the hatch and tying it off to the mast (pain).

You'll probably have a rough time finding that spring unless someone here can send you one. Perhaps you could install one of these?

try to fix your spring, my spring broke where it attaches at the bottom. I put some heat to it, so that I could bend it.

I've slept since then. but I would swear that West Marine has that stuff in their print catalog. I remember seeing thinking crap it's a spring, how could that break?

Now we know.

EDIT: Actually it was bass pro shops. Maybe I've been reading too many catalogs?

OK, now I need pictures. You guys talked about a spring - and then put (support) as a descriptor. I have supports (which were also broken but found a couple on e-bay) but I don't have a spring. Where does that go and what does it do?

No photo, but pitcher this in your mind. It takes two one on each side http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-8 ... 003cd6bb75 that is what the spring looks like when open, to close you just push down on the center of both springs at the same time. P S my broken spring was not hard to fix. Use a torch to heat it, where you wont to bend it

My 1979 C22 only has one spring on it, and I don't see where another would be. It's on the STBD side.

I would love to see a pic of somebody's spring(s) showing where they are mounted.

My hatch just has two rods (one on each side) that run through a small swival sleeve. A knurled nobbed bolt locks them in place.

Good find! I didn't realize that this application of the spring was that often used. You learn something new every day.

Thanks for the pics, I've wondered how that all went together.

I'm kind of curious where the compression post is in your boat?

I took it out to re-finish the wood on both ends an to un the wire inside of it so it does not look sloppy as hell.
