c22 table replacement

Post by parared »

Hi all, hope you are all getting filled with fine salt air.

So, my table is a little rotted at the hull, and generally in crappy shape. I was going to just get a sheet of properly sized laminate, cut to the correct form, and plop it in. Then I thought, wouldn't it look nice to put a sheet of pine or maple there. Can anyone think of a reason I shouldn't use a nice piece of wood there?

Maple is prone to mildew. Pine is also, but to a lesser extent. If you can get a 1/4 sheet of mahogany ply in 3/4", you'd do better. it doesn't have to be marine grade. Cabinet grade is fine. Just varnish it with extra on the edges.

there are some examples of folding table tops somewhere in the past postings...these give you more belly room when you want to actually sit at them and then they nicely unfold when you want to drop them down to make up the berth.
