EE - how's the hanging locker working out?

Wondered how Emergency Exit's hanging locker is working out. I've been wanting to make a similar mod on Windward -- three people's worth of foulies makes the head just a little cramped -- but have worried that it would compromise the "illusion of space" that makes the 26 seem so much less cramped than, say, a Pearson 26.

I'm thinking of quickly sticking in a bulkhead from settee to coachroof about 14" aft of the current drawers, but in a way that would permit it to be removed if it turns out to be a bad plan.

I'm also going to install an anchor roller and set up a rode locker forward. At home I don't mind anchoring from the cockpit and stowing the goods in the starboard aft settee, but would be nice to keep it mounted whilst on longer trips, and the settee is really prime stowage.

My J-30 had a hanging locker and it was great....it was ( if it would be onthe c-26) just foward of teh main bulhead between the drawers and inside the v- berth.

the advantage for you as Isee it is that you would only have to build one "wall" of teh closet..using the bulkhead as the aft "wall" also all you would have to remove is a small bit of plywood that makes up a small , unneded part of teh extreme aft starboard end ofthe v-berth and it would never break up the open salon.

I got a anchor bracket that lets you hang teh danforth off of teh bow pulpit. I then run the rode through a tube inthe the v-berth and straight into that space under the v berth.

I rarely use it 'cept on trips but it is handy to have it already at teh bow and it takes no space and the extra wegith all the way over the bow does help her ride a litttle better and balance out the giant 4-strok I have onteh transom

It wound up being divided with a shelf about halfway up ( 8 inches of so below the portlight) for use as a vanity or chart/paper area , and then the lower half divided vertically into storage for towels, spare clothes, things to keep handy near the head. Also ran 12v wiring to it, in case I want to modify the shelf to slide out to place a portable TV/DVD, etc on as needed. Plans are still to do the interior as noted on the web site, move it to the coast as a weekender next fall.

It doesn't take any space away from the length of the starboard banquette since it is about where the aft edge of the drawer was anyway, but it makes that area more usable to me as opposed to those drawers.

Jeff you might could hinge that second bulkhead so the top half folds down, and then the whole bulkhead swings away if you needed to. I did not glass mine in since the original one wasn't either, used L brackets to secure it, so it is removable easily.
