Bow Eye/Anchor Locker Issue

Post by EmergencyExit »

Removed EE's broken bow eye yesterday, and found something owners with anchor lockers might want to check, at least on the C26. The eye has a metal backing plate in the locker, and this is faired into the bow with a wooden block.

Being as that all sits in bottom of the locker where wet stuff can collect, check your block for rot.

EE's was just gone, gone, gone. Looks like they didn't glass that in originally. Bolts and nuts were crudded enough that I had to cut the remaining one with a Dremel. Didn't have the camera yesterday, but will get some pics when I do the repairs.

Hi EE,

My C26 does not have the anchor locker, but it is setup the same way with a block of wood behind that bow eye. Luckily mine stays nice and dry.

I would love to have a locker, do you have any specs or pictures of how it is set up? Does it take up much space in the V-berth?

Thnx

The 79's and 80's had the anchor lockers, I think, and it does take a couple feet off the vberth. I'll get some pics for you.

I looked at mine when I clened it out 3 years ago. An I will look at it agin to make sure it is OK. The ramp at my brothers is vary step about 45, don't wont the boat roling off the trailer befor it gets to the water. I am stel taking off botom paint. Using ZAP Striper , the botom Gel- Coat is Black Chery Red, an I am going with WAX on the botom, sides & topside.

The bow eye on my C22 was loose, so this weekend I attempted to tighten the nuts on the bolts to make it snug. Surprise - there were no nuts on the bolts! Fortunately, she hasn't been in the water since February when I bought her and has been on a trailer while I work on her. Needless to say, I found nuts to fit, and the bow eye is secure.

I love old boats!

My ManOWar was the same way when I got it... The block was completely rotted away, and while the Eye was stainless, the washers and nuts they had used were not... there was nothing left of them but a little mound of rust wrapped tightly around the threads... just high enough that I couldn't pull the eye out!... had to cut it off and install a new one :)
