Idasailor & Motor Mount

First up, hat's off to Idasailor. I recently bought my second Chrysler 26 and I knew that I would have to replace the rudder, it was broken. I bit the bullet and bought one for Idasailor. Since then I have also replaced the rudder bearings and tiller. I want to go on the record saying how good the quality of these parts are. The rudder fit like a glove and the bearing, which I had bought some time ago, and the tiller are just right. Now all three parts were ordered over a period of time but arrived in a timely fashion. Definitly money well spent and better then I could have manufacured. So...for parts for your Chrysler sailboat at great prices, I highly recommend this company. Oh... and special thanks to Aubree. Talk about customer service. Wow.

Next. I recently was given a 2003 9.9 hp Honda 4-stroke. I put it on my 26 using the orginal motor mount. One of the last owners cracked and then tried to fix this part of the boat. Has anyone replaced the mount and if so what did you do and are there any specs or photo's that I can look at.

I got my tiller there and was impressed with them as well.

I haven't replaced EE's motor mount but I did repair it. Just too many bolts to take off.

It was cracked at the starboard rear corner of the tray, and would barely hold the motor after a rough storm had passed thru earlier this year.

What I did was cut the fiberglass top of the tray off for inspection, and found the entire starboard half was empty except for rotted fibers of wood.

Dug all the junk out till there was only the glass sides left, coated the insides with resin and chopped matting, slid some resin covered ply in there, poured some glass with filler around it to fill any voids, and then ran bolts thru the sides top and bottom as added strength . Used some cloth to reform the top, and painted.

Very solid now, only took a half day to do all.

Thanks for the input. My cracks are at the back (motorside) on both the port and starboard side. It's holding ok but if I try to run the outboard up to speed I get quite a vibration. One of the powerboat guys in the marina suggested making an aluminum cap to slide over the top filled wtih bondo gel. The sides of the cap would extend downward like a sleeve. I'm not sure which way to go yet.

That's where mine were, just only on the right. Do a bit of digging, bet you'll find the same as me. If yours doesn't have it already, a common beef up is a sheet of aluminum on the inside of the tray.

My motor mount had been reinforced by previous owner. It is a sheet metal of stainless steel folded over the mount and flared to either side and bolted into the hull on the flares. Much stronger than original.
