Trolling motor

Post by James Hudson »

I have an 18 foot Buccaneer and was wondering if anyone knows if an electric trolling motor would be capable of powering the boat when not under sail?
Also, I am looking at a used 10 hp. outboard, but I think that may be too much weight and power.
Anyone care to offer suggestions?
Thanks

James,

Iwaslooking into using atrolling motor on my 22 & most of the replies were telling me to get something with 50-55Lbs of thrust.

I'm Sure that the others will chime in...

trolling motor

In addition to my Chrysler 22, I have a 17' vagabond. I run that boat with a 55 lb thrust trolling motor and it works great. Not fast, but efficient. I would not go less.

It depends on where you plan on using it...I had a little 37 lb on my 22' c22 and it did what i needed it to do..had to motor out through a 1/8 mile channel to get to the the main lake...if i had to deal with currents then it prob wouldnt have been enough...

I purchased a 55 lb thrust trolling motor as an emergency drive for my 26'. I wasn't sure if it would even be usefull but I had the opportunity to use it late one night coming into deltaville va. I fired up the outboard to navigate into the marina and the float bowl stuck and it flooded, after trying to restart it for an hour I gave up and used the trolling motor. At full throttle I got 2 mph against an outgoing tide for about an hour without killing the battery.
