bow nav light flashing?

Post by tnc110 »

I hooked up a battery to my wiring harness to get all my lights working and my bow nav light comes on solid for about 5-10 seconds then starts blinking like a turn signal. Are there bulbs that are designed to blink? It is a new bulb that i got from the local marina...it doesnt say anything on the package about flashing/blinking...whats going on here? As far as i can tell there are no relays/breaks of any sort between the battery the switch and the bulb...

I doubt the bulb blinks intentionally. Even so, if it does, it is illegal.
You should fix it.

You can pull the bulb, turn the lights on and use a test light on the socket to see if the bulb is blinking or if there is some other reason.

maybe someone took a flasher off an old Chrysler New Yorker and installed it just to tease you!!! ;)

I took the boat out of the water today and did some maint. I don't know what the deal is with the bulbs i have, but took one and and a jumper wire and hooked it directly to the battery...they flash...so weird....glad to know its just the bulbs though and not some mysterious wiring problem

That bulb is probably a broken filament whe it heats up it breaks the contact and cools and makes again similar to a flasher in a car that uses a bimetal and heat to work.
