one way/auto bailing plug?

Post by tnc110 »

I am getting water in my cabin when I motor. The water appears to be coming in at the rear of the boat. I am almost certain that this problem could be eliminated if I could stop the water from coming in the rear bailing holes. When I motor the rear of the boat drops down several inches...almost a foot. This causes water to fill the fuel/battery compartment. Does any one know of a source for some sort of auto bailing plug that i can put in the rear holes?

You have a 22 correct. Im not sure what you are referring to when you say fuel/battery compartment. The compartment on the stern of the boat should be for fuel only. The battery on our boat is strapped in port side lazzarette about mid ships. I would think its much to wet in the stern compartment to store a battery and you wouldn't want the extra weight there anyway.

The stern compartment should communicate only through to the cock pit. which is self bailing If you are getting water below in the cabin Im thinking it's coming from somewhere else. Under some conditons when motoring water would come up through the center board cable . The other possibilyt is a leak at the base of the rudder hose.

no...its not coming from the keel cable or the rudder tube...I crawled under the cockpit while motoring and saw the water puddle and trickle from the stern of the boat...

thought this might help...

Any one got a pic of the proper battery mount location... mine was mounted in the fuel tank compartment when I got it...it worked so I left it there...

Sounds like you have a crack in the stern compartment. Did this happen before or after you lost the keel?

I believe you are right about the cracked stern compartment. Before I lost the keel the rudder post was leaking...fixed that and was hoping all was well...but now there is another leak.

I dont like the way the stern compartment gets filled with water when motoring. I will probably address both issues...install a scupper to keep the water from flowing into the compartment as well as patch the crack/leak in the compartment....

Rudder post thru fitting may need to be resealed?

Sink drain valve is open, mine would leak on port tack and run under the cushions where you could not see it, go all the way to the back then run back forward in the middle looking like the rudder post was leaking.

had another thought about the stern compartment. I wouldn't want to seal it up tight, it might prevent gas vapors from venting... Big Boom Results
