C22 hand rails or grab bars

I must admit that going forward on my new C22, without anything to hold onto other than the life line, is rather scary for me.

I purchased a sailing harness, but still have no idea how I could attach a tether/harness to prevent me from falling over the side. There is simply nothing to hold onto, as you walk forward on the C22.

For a "normal" person, this is probably not a big issue and something that is simply learned from experience. However, I have a "foot drop" problem after my airplane crash from a few years ago, and tripping over my own foot is a very real probability. Not if, but simply when.

I noticed that Cpt Scott has hand rails on his sailboat, and would like to know how others have solved this safety issue.

What worked better: Teak, metal, PVC or other types of hand rails?

Any issues do I need to know about, when bolting this onto my C22?

Yeah, avoid going forward: rig a simple jib downhaul, and drop the anchor from the cockpit.

A Jib downhaul will be installed, but that still does not solve the problem.

Even while my sailboat is sitting inside the airplane hanger, I have nothing to hold onto (other than the lifelines) when trying to move towards the bow.

I need to know how to solve this rather important safety issue, where a hand rails would provide something to hold onto.

Just like walking down a flight of stairs, without a hand rail, it is an accident waiting to happen.

On our 26 I just crouch and lean towards the middle, usually with a hand on the cabin top.

One of the things on my long to-do list is replacing the useless teak trim rails with hand rails.

I have the bow pulpit off EE for some repairs (still more hurricane stuff), and had to go forward to the mast to drop the genny and then secure the jib in 10-15's Saturday. Really missed that security. I've added a couple of 24" grab rails on either side of the forehatch, and also find they are great to brace a foot against when going from bow to the mast.

About the hand rails,
I do have "Life Lines" on both of my 22's however I do not have proper hand rails per say. They did not come on the 22's as far as I can tell. As already mentioned the life lines are nice however I would not rely on them. Proper rails on the coach top would be better.

Maybe you looked at photos of Destiny and saw hand rails??
Destiny is a totally different boat and does have hand rails.
