in more preperation for a 4+ day sailing outting I have been working on lights ,

so for now this seem to work, and for 2 light sets for $9 seems like a good deal

and my wife found this

its solar powered. and $5

I really still have a million things to do. I have to remind myself I'm doing this for stress relief

Where did you find those LED's 2 for $9?

They came from my local auto parts store as driving lights and also comes with wire and an illuminating witch.

I was able to read a normal book and it lite the cockpit enough to night sail.

I'm going to change all the lights to LED's

Alan, where did you get your stern light?

I got my stern light from G.I. Joes, about 3 months before the announced they were going out of business. They had it's price marked wrong and which saved me about 50% off the price. I'm traveling right now so I dont have the documentation and I dont remember the brand. It's 42 in long and plugs into a stern socket. I had to install a new ster socket as the old one was shot.

The guys at the dock said that it was the brightest stern light they had ever seen.

The stern light is a 42" pole with the light at the top. It's the Attwood LED Anti-Glare All-Round Light, 5530 Series. The 42" gets it just up over the boom. Since the whole rig plugs into the socket it's stowed below until dark when I haul it out and plug it in. I also use a small bungee cord to hold the pole to the stern pulpit for extra support, not needed but it's a long pole so... I plug it into a Perko socket which is fixed to the stern.

Both lights fired up draw, I believe 7ml Amps, and very bright 2 NM at least

For the cabin, I use 2 12v closet florescent lights that I found at Lowes for like 9 bucks back in 2006. One got dunked in salt water and still runs. They run either on batteries or from the boat battery, and they have independent switches, so I can have one on, one off, etc.

They draw way less than the regular bulbs, and they don't get hot. I had them running for two days straight till the battery was dead. In comparison, I can run the mast light for less than a night before the battery goes dead.
