Mondays 09/21/2009 Question and boating safety Tip ASNWERED

Safety Tip
How about your flares? When is the last time you checked them? What do you do with the expired ones every year or so?? Did you know that there are groups like the United States Power Squadron that set up days with the Coast Guard specifically to light off old flares? Have you ever shot your flare gun? Has your better half ever lit and held one of the hand held flares? A scarey prospect for some. You might consider taking your old flares to one of these sanctioned events and have everyone aboard learn and to actually properly deploy one of the expired flares you carry! When you need one, you will not likely have the time or desire to read the instructions!!!!!

On a side note, NEVER deploy an expired flare for any reason except an emergency or a sanctioned event.

Question for today

While cruising in Destiny we came across this marker.
What does this marker mean?

Oh yeah, don't bother trying my website. I have not labeled the new markers section yet!! You won't find the answer there yet!!!! LOL!

A South Cardinal Mark, I believe

Post by hawkins_k12 »

A Cardinal Mark, used to indicate there is a hazard.
The two black cone shapes both pointing down, make this a
South Cardinal Mark,
meaning there is a hazard just north of the mark
thus it should be approached and navigated from the south
