No vin on my trailer so I had to go to the Colorado HP for verification. Got home and discovered the main hatch was missing!!!! Now I know why they tied the mast to the deck instead of the top of the pulpit and aft rail. I was a great day. I drove the route again anticipating finding fiberglas shards I could use for a pattern to make another. Found it! Unharmed! on a bridge on a major highway! So now I know what two of those pieces of wood left in the cabin are for. My question is what type of finish will look great and provide protection. I've not had great results from some spar varnishes. Oh, and I have to make the trek to the CHP again this saturday morning.

Let the adventures begin, sailing and misshapes seem to go hand in hand so don't feel bad, I lost a single axle trailes tire on the NJ turn pike.

I jump around on the hatch when sailing they are very tough its nice you found yours

Its all worth it in the end.

I ve had great results with just Teak oil. And the look is beautiful.


What parts are you mising?, I still have a few left from my parts boat.

I use a product called Cetol. It works well for me. Easy to patch up if it gets nicked or dinged and application is simple. Some folks do not like the color of Cetol vs varnish.

When I demasted a 16' cat I took the mast to a metal specialist who straightened it for me. It was over 3 years later I ran into someone who said they were in the shop when he straightened it. I asked how. The answer: They chucked it up in a vice and 6 guys got on the other end and bent it back!!!! I used this knowledge years later when my son bent our mast on a 16' capri (threw the sheet out the car window, ran over it and ripped the mast of the top of my Explorer). So maybe I'm starting ahead by getting the mast already bent on this one! I'm thinking two saw horses a long ways apart and a real heavy friend in the middle!

I used Minwax Helmsman. It looks good, is relatively inexpensive and easy to find, and has worked well on outdoor furniture in the past. I see no reason it won't do just as well on the boat.
