Hello all, back again with some photos of the 1980 Chrysler C-22 that I bought on 11/24/09. You can see two of them here (I'll try to post more later):

First, a little more about me; I'm a noobie to sailboats - this is my first boat by the way! Rest assured though that I'm very determined to learn all about it as I've wanted a sailboat for years and doing a restore of this C-22 will definitely help me in that endeavor. I pickup on things fast but if you see me ask a dumb question or describe something the wrong way...my humble apologies in advance.

As you can see in the photos, the boat needs a good cleaning but I would eventually like to repaint it inside and out to give it a newer look overall. Apparently this little ditty was sitting in a field for the last 7(?) years or so probably with the hatch open. There were a lot of leaves and a bit of water inside the various compartments in the cabin but I bilged most of that out yesterday.

Overall the wood on the boat, including the tiller, could use sanding and refinishing. The keel is quite a bit rusty but I think I can get that in better shape based on what I've read in this forum. Rudder needs a little TLC, motor did start briefly when we tested it but seller mentioned something about that might need repair, can't remember what that was now but I'll call him to find out. Hull has a couple of minor scratches that have already been touched up by the previous owner. Rigging cables all seem to be there. Finally, the trailer is a little rusty but I plan on painting that too in the spring.

So...what do you think? Again, I really appreciate all the help and advice on this forum - you guys are great!

Hey Bryan, thanks for the photos!we all live for photos!

before you decide to paint her, take a look at my 1976 22 in my signature. The interior of the 76 was awfull when I got her. Wish I had taken photos before the pre cleaning cleaning.

take lots of photos along the way of all the work you do! It will remind you next time you get another boat of the reality invovled! It is also very fun to look back at all you've accomplished!!

A good pressure washing and it will look great. I wish I had the poptop option, you'll like that if you overnight on the boat. Do you have the sliding galley?

Thanks 69Shark and trev. 69Shark you have some real nice photos on your site there - I'll definitely take your advice and try to photo document all stages of work on mine. I especially like what you've done to restore the wood on your boat - I love that stain finish and wanted the exact same for mine including taking out the stock table and putting in a nice cherry wood table. I know a real good lumber/woodworking guy based in southern Minnesota...

trev, I don't think my boat has the pop-top. Possibly the sliding galley...is what you are referring to a sink or stove that slides out? I see a rail on the inside that might be what you're mentioning. I don't think though that the standard model of this boat came with that - possibly an optional component though?

It looks kind of like it has the poptop. the galley slides under the starboard side cockpit locker and is on a track. It was a factory option that my boat had but was removed at some point, I would like to find one someday.

Now that I look closer at your photos I do not see the sink drain thru-hull so you probably never had the factory galley.

Try using TSP I think its called, you can find it in Lowes in the plumbing section.

Hey Bryan I would like to see pictures of the added port windows. from the inside would be great. I have a set that open I was thinking of adding in the forward burth area. Sungun61 has a C-22 in great condition it shows Chrysler Marine was making only small but nice changes.

Gus has a good tip there. TSP (Trisodium Phospate) is a good cleaner. You can find it in the paint section as well, couple brands are Dirtex, and Savogran.

I just retrieved the little Coronado 15 from under a tree and it's nonskid was nasty. Bit of TSP in some warm water along with a brush fixed her right up.

I also use it for everything from siding cleaner, to wall paint prep, to cleaning paint brushes.

Welcome Bryan.
I am looking at using a boom from a Venture 17 to improve ease of use
I am glad to see the Chrysler crowd expanding and I love my C-26 and wish I still had the Newport Holiday she was a fun day boat.
The 26 has the head room and is heavy enough to take some weather as I have had her in wind of 25KN and yes reefed main and partially furled head sail and when tacking I had whitecaps breaking at the toe rail at the bow pulpit heeled at 30 degrees and a fun ride.
