Where's the boom???

Hello all, new member here and very glad that I found this forum to provide a wealth of information regarding Chrysler sailboats. I am thinking of buying a 1980 C-22 and the seller (a non-sailor, selling it for someone else) doesn't seem to have the boom. I'm just wondering if the boom is stored away somewhere and we just don't know where...any thoughts on this? Is there some hidden compartment for storing away the boom? If I get the boat I'll be sure to share some info and photos. Thank you in advance!

Welcome
If you haven't seen the boom its not there, this is the same way I got my 75 C-22.

If thats the only thing missing don't let it discurage you just offer less for the boat. you can get and use booms from other boats if you cant find an original boom.

the Chrysler C-22 is a great boat and if the deal is good I don't think you would be dissapointed.

If you don't get it please post its where abouts and info in the forsale section, we will find it a good home

If you've got both the main and the foresail, and don't see the boom, it's likely missing.

I looked at a Windrose 20 at a car lot once and the guy said he had the main all rolled up nice, but no boom. Guess where the boom was - yep the main was rolled around it....

I'm still tring to hunt down the original boom and sails + for my C-22
I just haven't found the last person to sail it. I've talked to the last 2 guys that owned/had it

it and now looking for the person before them.

dont let the boom discourage you, the original boom is only a rectangular cross section of aluminum. Im sure we can get you enough photos and measurements that you can get a replacement from any number of on line sources.

Do not forget there is really nothing special about the boom! Any boom with similar measurements will work! Your replacement boom can be a standard oval shaped one. Just get the correct goose neck and toggle and you are on your way!!!

I got an extra boom when I purchased my C-22. It is not original but I can compare the 2 and see if it will work.
Maybe somehow, your boom got stuck in my boat!! :) Just kidding

Thanks to all of you for your timely responses - terrific community here.

Just wanted to post an update; today I went to buy the boat and we contacted the actual owner. Surprise - he just might have the boom and some other accessories! This will all be checked and hopefully...by tomorrow I'll be the proud new owner of one cool C-22.

A little more info; this boat is in need of lots of TLC and time investment. I plan on painting it inside and out and will need repairs here and there but, as far as I know, it looks like it might have all or most of the parts. I'm sure I'll be camping out at this forum for info over the winter

Hello, I just bought a C22 on the 18th of November. It is on a trailer and we are going to do a little work on it. It did not have all the deck hardware, and the keel was removed. but i have new keel holder thingy(not sure of the tech name).

does anybody have pictures of their boom? So far i know the boom is 3 1/2" x 1 1/4". The over-all length is 8' 6". without Goose neck.

not sure what a goose neck is?

i thought of just making one out of Cedar(it is light enough), any suggestions.

Welcome ! Guyaks, you'll want to find a regular boom with the right fittings, but I can promise the group that if anybody could make a cedar one, bet it would be you. And I bet this C22 is going to wind up with one sweet handmade tiller at some point. I'll let everyone else figure out why I say that

Oh, and a sweet dink as well.

The gooseneck is a universal joint that lets the boom swing side to side and up and down.

Did i hear you say manual?? where would i get a manual?? Thanks about the cedar comment, the tiller is a mess and i am going to laminate on up this week....after thanksgiving.

You can download a low res version From This Page courtesy of Sailfrog.

I also have a hi res version that Mariner provided based on Sailfrog's originals, but they are large. 16 Mb on the C22 and crystal clear. If you like I can email you one of the hi-res ones.

If I can waste $300 I will make a boom out of teak. But for now I think my oval shaped boom although not original looks and works great. Ill put up a picture soon but it looks like a match to the original mast,

I bought a whole other boat just to get the boom...lol
