Welsh Corgi anyone??

My girls are looking to get a new pet.
We lost our beloved German Shepard in January.
Seriously , very beloved.


My girls are very intested in a Corgi.

Any input ANYONE??

How did your german shepard do on the boat?

I often consider/would like to take my rotweiller with me, but question how he would do with the boat heeling over at steep angles.

It would have been disastrous if he had been with us the day the keel came off and the boat capsized!!!

my input is not boat input, since my boat is on the hard this summer. I vote for the cardigan welsh corgi--because I have one.

I am in my third month of corgi ownership having just obtained a one year old cardigan. (which I like better than the Pembroke--which is known as the Queen's dog. The Cardigan has a long bushy tai pembroke has none, a its color pattern is more full than the Pembroke==lke she is wearing a sweater).

Cutest, smartest, and a bit bossy. Has a lot of energy for a small dog. She has been to the water's edge at the ramp and has hopped in after a stick and after another dog. No swimming yet. She will walk on the shaky dock without too much trepidation.

Great kid and people dogs. And gets along with other dogs, mines a little afraid and barky at first. She does have a loud bark for size, but she is not yappy or nervous. And they are just the right size to stay out of cat doors and off most furniture.

Drawback--a bit feisty toward cats and tends to chew--may just be an adolescent phase, but I am one less remote control and blackberry and I lose a pen or pencil every day. And maybe sheds a little more than some dogs.

I'm hoping the boat thing will be good. We'll see.

While I claim to blame the girls, I too was quite excited. After loosing our German Shepard in January, we've all been struggling for a dog. The Beagles were a wonderfull distraction but when they left, the hole in our family was left unfilled.

We wanted a pooch that was good for the boat and easy going. Reasonably smart was definately a plus. My daughter fell in love with this breed playing video games of all things. We were looking at the Pembroke version when a puppy showed up online. No, she's No puppy mill dog. 10 weeks old she is.

Saturday morning we went to JUST LOOOOOK. ( famous last words )
Saturday by lunch she was sound asleep on Destiny.
Saturday evening she was introduced to her knew home.

Yep, she spent 5 hours on Destiny before even going home. She seemed to be just fine. Not a care in the world with the exception of a bit of input overload for her.

She'll never replace Sasha our Shepard however she will be a wonderfull adition to our family.

As far as Sasha goes she was never a boat dog by our choice. So I can not give you a fair representation of how she COULD have been.
I'm sure she'd have been fine for shorter trips. Extended cruising may have been a bit more of an issue. German Shepards can get bored. They need some type of daily exercise and mental challenges. Not much but SOMETHING. Otherwise they entertain themselves without you. Sometimes cool, sometimes not.
