Oiled

Well, I've got the girl about 80% oiled. Teak that is. I have always preferred oil over varnish. . . probably because I am lazy. Since I have never bought a new boat, just 6 unloved ones, I have had to remove old/bad varnish which is a real pain. It is much easier to restore teak that just hasn't been oiled in a few years. Some sanding - some oiling - call it done. Sundowner is looking a little happier. I also installed a "custom" made sail tack gate cover so my main dropped about 6 inches down the track. Still need to get a floppy ring to fit the cringle/grommet and reef hook. Gaining on it.

All I did was oil my teak and its still looks great I wouldn't think of doing anything else. And if its the lazy way .... it would be the only thing you can be that way when sailing. I'm still looking for ways to add teak to mine.

My Sweety Pam made Sunbrella covers for all our teak, it really cuts down on the time between needed oil jobs...

Talking about wood, I think I will be making new hatch slides with integrated handrails this winter along with some new hatch boards etc. If you had your choice what wood species would you use? And why? Thanks.

I gave up on oil.... would stain the white gelcoat... I use a Sikkens CETOL product ... love it ... hope it lasts..
