My boat came with a remote control, electric start motor as I believe most did. I'm wondering if anyone has experience, good or bad, with tiller control or pull start motors on a C26.

EE originally had a 5hp Merc for power. Everytime I pulled on the starter cord I banged my knuckles on the transom due to the angle of pull and height of motor. Also was a pain to reach over the stern to shift or to adjust the tiller throttle.

With that memory in mind, I love my electric start and remotes !

Yes mine is a little small for the 26 does fine even in rough weather. In the Hudson river which here is narrow so the current moves faster(like a venturi)
and pushes her along at 6.5 kt. My friend has a Bristol 26 with a 9.9 Johnson
and a 4 blade sailboat prop and I keep up with him with a 4 stroke 4 hp
Johnson with a 3 blade prop. as for docking I have to come in slow and before my bow gets near the dock I have to be in reverse as it takes almost 2 boat lengths to get her stopped and as far as pull start I have hit the stern
light cover with my finger a few times and it aint pretty when the cover goes between your finger and finger nail.

lecker68, A 4hp on a 26?? My C20 came with a 5hp 4-stork Honda 26" shaft. ( that now has a burned out impaler) That I am worndering how to fix. I put a bran new Neson 4hp 4-strok 20" saft on the C-20. An I was going out for a sail, the wind was comming from the east, to shor, waves were 2 to 3 feet. So I was headding strat into the wind an waves. Going out of the cut, to the lake. I was barly moving, the prope was cavatating, ( comming out of the water. So when I had rome to come about , I did. I pould the boat an took of the 4hp an put the 9.9 Chrysler on. Better over power than under power. Your 4hp does not cavate ( come out of water ) If my 4hp had a 26" shaft it would do the job (I Think)

EE originally was powered by a little Merc 5hp. Ran wide open all the time, but got her down da bayou and back. Slowly, but surely. The 20" shaft did pop in and out of the water once we left the bayou and got in the lake chop.

I'm on a couple of trailer sailor mail lists. Besides here I check into www.sailfar.net, www.conchcruisers.net and www.cruisingworld.com forums on a semi regular basis.

For those taking a look Conch Cruisers seems to be nearing death, but feel free to breath some life back into it.

Chrysler20&26 yes in water that rough it does cavitate and I get out of the creek and get the sails up. I have yet to have my outboard cavitate under sail power and my 26 points well. I have a 9.9 Chrysler up north that will take remote controls but no elect start and it has a problem with recoil.

Tom sailfar and plasticclasic and of course here. I ran 110 power into the boat so I can have light and heat to work during the winter.
