Waterline, C26

I'm getting ready to paint Copacetic, and there are two distinct waterlines painted currently. There is no boot stripe, and where the bottom paint is thin I can see a lower and upper line.

Does anyone know how to determine where the original line is? Are there molded in reference points? Measurements from the toe rail?

Shheesshh, it was howling so bad I couldn't get any painting on the little boat done after I sanded the primer coat, so I went over to EE to measure the waterline for you - and I couldn't hold the tape measure in the wind. We had 18-20 mph all day.

Going over back over Saturday for a work party, will try again (with a helper) !

I can tell you it's about 39" from the toe rail at the bow, and about 29" at the keel pin, but you're going to need a bit more data than that !!

I understand. We had wind like that Saturday when I was working on the boat. Every time I went to climb down I found the ladder had blown over!

I think bow, stern and midship measurements should do for just about anybody. For me, one might even do. I already have two lines so I'm assuming that one or the other is correct, or at least they are parrellel to the correct line.

Nevermind. I started sanding and figured it out. Previous owner had put bottom paint up to the top of the factory boot stripe. Once I sanded enough to figure that out I new what to do.

I spent most of Saturday sanding away the excess bottom paint. Yuck!

Will do. I only got 4 points of ref that day, another day of howling wind, and the tape measure kept blowing over.

(and ya know if you "reef" a tape measure it loses its effectiveness...)
