Humingbird Transducer mount

Post by Bhacurly »

Took a couple picts of the inboard mount for those interested...

Again, you can see the port side keel bolts in the picts. I've had no problems with accuracy through the hull. Bought the setup at the hardware store, a cleanout for a 4" septic or sewer line, notched at the bottom and siliconed in place. Filled with water to cover the transducer...

Try holding you "shift" key and click "refresh" with your mouse to do a forced refresh of the page.

Or . . . .

Just click the links on my post above!

That should do it too.

how clever! is the actual transponder unit epoxied to the hull or is it just "floating" in the cleanout?

I am curious about the articulating arm mount for the display unit..any pics on that..

BTW: that is one hell'va catalina 27 project going on there....great trailer too!

I added some more picts to that link showing the GPS/ mounting arms in various positions,,, why I like having 2 arms!

The transduser is not epoxied in place, there is some slopped silicone on the tip and aft end that keep it from floating... and that works well despite not part of the original "design" specs

Edit to add the RAM mount site:

Is th Depth sounder accurate? I owold thinkthat air would get in between the transducer and the hull.... your'e set up is so simple it desplays everything a great sailor should have, simplicity, ingenuity, practicality and economy!!!

thanks for the link to the source... very helpful

Do you remove the water in the cleanout for winter or did you use RV antifreeze? Curious if it would freeze, would it damage the transducer?

Well,

This year I removed it, last year I didn't an it froze solid. It did work fine last Summer but I wouldn't recommend it!
