New Steamer/Deck Light Combo Spotlight Upgrade

Post by Alanhod »

Hi All,

Okay as some of you know I replaced my OEM Steamer light with a new Steam/Deck Light Combo which I paid $55 for last year. (Aqua Signal 25 Masthead Deck 12V/10W Light ASL-254047) You may also remember I did not like the deck light bulb hanging out all bare naked the way it was designed. I felt it was not safe for the bulbs health and long term usefulness without any kind of cover as it was built from the factory. (My Opinion Only)

Well I rebuilt that part of the light with one of those Waterproof Marine High Intensity LED Flood Lights, Warm White for $19.99 from www.Oznium.com. As advertized this LED spot light is incredibly bright even on a bright summer day. (Again My Opinion Only)

I drilled out the rivet that held the Aqua Signal deck light socket to the housing. I glued the new LED Flood Light right to the back of the Aqua Signal deck light reflector and it was a perfect fit, no other modifications needed to the Aqua Signal housing. I then soldered the new wires form the new LED Flood Light exactly where I removed the Aqua Signal wires.

It came out fantastic. Here's the photo's.

Pre- Refit Configuration, OEM socket in place.

Post- Refit Configuration, Upgraded LED Spot Light in place. The wires were not yet soldered in the same place as the OEM socket was set up.

Thanks
Alan

Awesome idea! I already replaced my steaming light with a LED bulb. What kind of glue did you use on the anchor light?

I used a 10 Sec Set, Gel From, Loctite, got it on close out from the Big Box Mega Curve of the Earth Store on closeout for $2. Said it was good for plastic and metal which is what I was dealing with. Worked real Good.

Oh also I soldered the wires in exactly where the OEM wires were run to the frame of the unit. I removed the OEM wires for the Deck Light completely using the wires that came with the new LED Flood Light.

Thanks
Alan

Alan,
I think I have that same light fixture, as yet uninstalled.

On mine, the thick bits the screws grab into stick out past the "flange" that has a curve to fit the mast. Does that make sense? Maybe I need to take pictures.

Anyway, it remained uninstalled in part for that reason.

Mark and Alan, what a great site. Ozinium looks awesome.
Why do we not all have this light in our cabins?
18 white, 12 red with a switch for $24.99.

OK guys, I tried to get my cabin light lens off to see what kind of LED bulb to get. Couldn't get it to budge. What's the secret? Didn't want to break it.

On my square lights you flex the sides of the lens in slightly, there are two small tabs on each side. These are on only two sides. A really close look, perhaps with a slight squeeze, will tell you which sides.

Yup sounds like the same unit to me. I was not pleased with that aspect as well of it standing off the mast like that on those plastic numbs. I am in contemplation of doing a little reshaping of the plastic with my Dremall Tool.

I really should have paid more for my combo light. This one keeps costing more time and money but it will work they way I want it too.

Thanks
Alan
