I think the sailboat has right of way over the power boat unless the power boat has less maneuverability. Both vessels are responsible for avoiding collision.

Starboard or leeward tack, I believe, only comes into play if there are two sailboats involved.

I see from peoples' photos that some of you have a really nice stern rail that comes around to the sides of the boat and attaches to the lifelines.

Our C22 just has a rail on the transom that really does little other than hold the mast while it's horizontal on the hard.

As our sails get older, particularly the main, I'm finding I need to add more and more tension on the halyard to get more life out of them. You may have noticed in the photos I posted earlier that the main lacked some tension.

Last weekend I sailed (crew) from Newport, RI to Block Island and back on a C&C 35. On the way back, I called my friend who was out on Elixir and told her I'd be in the area, "Get out there full sail, and I'll take some pictures!"

The manual on the http://chryslersailing.lizards.net/ site is all GIF files which are not very good for text (or images really).

There are two pins in place that keep it close to mid-ships. That's where I keep it when I'm not adjusting it. There is about 10" or so of play when it is centered, but if I were sailing, it would obviously be held against the leeward pin by the wind.

As far as the cotter-rings, I've never had one ...

We had our first sail of the season on Friday, and it was magnificent!

I think our traveler is original as well. We have a series of holes along the track and a pair of pins. The car runs along the track, and the pins prevent the car from going too far in either direction.

Most often we set the pins to keep the car in the middle of the track, but when we're trying to ...

On our C22, we never used to loosen the turnbuckles prior to stepping or lowering the mast. This year we invested in all new shrouds and turnbuckles, so it was a bit of a wonder as to how much slack there'd be once she was up.

We don't have a hinge, just the old hook.

I like the idea of shackling the vang to the to rail, that's clever! You say in light wind only, but wouldn't it act as a gybe-preventer in heavier wind?

Thanks guys. A rigid vang seems a bit much for the sailing we do on our little C22. Plus, on our boat we have a loose footed sail with a boom that's allowed to twist. I think if you had a rigid vang, you would limit the boom from being able to twist.

Is there a specific angle one should try to achieve between the mast and the vang? That is, I intend to mount it to the base of the mast, but how far ...

We successfully raised our mast yesterday! Just like last year, one of the shrouds got caught on the port winch. I don't know if it can be avoided, but this time, as she went up, we knew to look down for snags.

I've never figured out how to fly a large headsail without it rubbing the lifelines. I've put "chaffing patches" on the sail at those locations... just used sticky-back 3M Sail Patch material. I never had it wear the sail badly, but I did it just as a precaution.

Thanks, that's more along the line of what I had in mind. My thought is that there is probably a decent compromise of using the existing track but adding a couple blocks to either end and maybe replacing the car.

On a similar note, we are also looking for some jib sheet insight.
We just got a new jib (120%) and it looks beautiful. However, to get a nice shape out of the jib, I need a block further forward. I've put a snatch block on the toe rail, but from this location the jib sheet puts pressure on the ...

Does anyone else have any interesting traveler configurations?

I think ours is as the factory built it. I has pins to stop the traveler car from moving beyond incremental positions.

I find this system to be difficult to use. I'd like to find a nice alternative. Has anyone upgraded theirs?
