I will definately continue reading the forum. There is such a wealth of knowledge here and a great group of people. I'm pleased with the family I sold my C22 to. They will have many great summer days on the lake.

Being a born again racer...phrf is near and dear as there are not many one design ...

Sold to a great family that will enjoy learning to sail their Chrysler 22. I recommended this group as an excellent resource to learn more about their new boat and sailing in general.

Happy Sailing, Deanne

Made me contemplate my boat's paint job. But I think a rudder post repair is going to be priority when I pull it out this winter. Function before beauty.

Really like it. Love the electric start. It is a bit heavy. I would have been fine with a 6hp. But I got a really good deal so I'm not going to complain.

Here is a picture of the turnbuckle. Worked on them for about an hour tonight. Used 2 vise grips, angled pliers, and WD40. They are better but not quite as tight as I want them.

EE,
I wish I had those turnbuckles. They are easy to adjust. Mine has a threaded post on the wire end, a locknut above the turnbuckle, a bronze knuckle within the turnbuckle. The turnbuckle itself attaches directly to the chainplate w/a pin. I'll take a picture today.
Thanks.

No cotter pins (I will add something once they are adjusted). I have the most trouble getting a good grip on the brass nut inside the turnbuckle to turn it. I can turn the nuts on top. I'll try more WD40. Any tool recommendations other than persistance?

Tightening Shroud Turnbuckles

Does anybody have any tips for tightening the shroud turnbuckles on a C-22? Believe they are the originals and they are exceedingly hard to tighten.

PS. Took the nieces out today. They had a blast. Little sailors in the making. But I really need to tighen those loose shrouds... :?

Just put a new 8hp Nissan outboard on my C22. It has more than enough power for the lake I sail on. Not sure how much you would need on the Great Lakes.

The boat will usually round up into the wind as soon as the boat heels over far enough that the wind is dumped off the sails or the sheet is eased. When a boat is intact, it will happen very quickly. Rail in the water but nothing in the cockpit or cabin. The physics of a sailboat is a balancing act ...

Generally keelboats are self righting, unless something catastrophic happens (like losing the keel) or if they are poorly designed (too much sail area and not enough/improperly designed underwater foil). It's all about the physics of the underwater foil vs the sails. I've been knocked down several ...

There is still hope. Your team played well.

The boat is great...the outboard, not so much. It's in the shop. Won't shift into gear. Keeping my fingers crossed that it is an easy and inexpensive repair.

2nd outing was a success!

Took my parents out tonight for a sail. They race a Laser 28, so standards are high. Dad thought the little boat sailed quite nicely! We had a nice breeze and hit 5 knots on his GPS. There is a hum from the keel cable - nice light tone about 2.5 kts and a deeper tone at 4.5-5 kts. Do others have ...

Thanks!

Actually it was a Mercury 2 stroke and my brother is cursing it as I type. He had given it a tune up and was quite confident that we were "good to go". Ran great in the barrel. To his credit, the boat had sat in the water for 4 years, untouched. Old gas in the tank, rotten fuel lines, etc. He ...

Thank you for all the sage advice

I have been lurking on this board for a couple of months. Soaking up all the collective knowledge. I have to thank you all. We (Dad, brothers, and I) rigged and launched my "new" C22, Galatea, without a hitch.

The launch went well. And then it was a comedy after that. The outboard which had ...
